Sock, Hammer, Rock
If you ever get the change to crack a geode, please do! It is quite a unique experience. (They also make great housewarming gifts! Thanks, Casey.) If you ever stumble upon a vendor of rocks and stones perhaps ask for an uncracked geode. They're generally affordable and it is a tremendous deal of fun to take a whack at it with the hammer and see what mysterious crystal formations are inside.
I tried, in vain, to take a photo of the dazzling interior crystals, but....you'll just have to take my word for it. That is, until you crack a geode of your own!

We received some geodes as a gift from our jeweler when we purchased something there. The kids really loved them, too. I would like to buy some more and do that again. It's been over a year since we last did that. :)
ReplyDeleteIt IS really fun! I bet it could be a good school lesson for the kids as well.
DeleteSomehow, I don't think of a rock as a housewarming gift. Is there some sort of symbolism? Or, was it something you received from someone who knew you would appreciate it? Will you display it? Is that a hole in the rock/geode? affordable=$???
ReplyDeleteShe just knew we'd like it. We have a three layer shelf in our living room with rocks on display. A few geodes, jade, rose quartz, watermelon tourmaline, azurite, petrified wood, agate, amethyst, etc.
DeleteWhen we bought them last fall we got four for $6, I think. They were not terribly large, but they were still beautiful inside. Larger ones are more expensive. I've seen up to $20.
