Ewwwwww.....

You know that excitement when you spot a couple strawberries in your patch that are huge, beautiful red, and just absolutely begging to be picked.  And then you pick them and notice a little worm-like-creature crawl out.  And so you cut one open and out pours dozens and dozens of tiny little worms.  You know that feeling?
Mama millipede was living in the middle of this one with a wad of babies.  Imagine being able to be 100% surrounded by walls of strawberry.
In case you don't....its somewhere between disappointment (at the loss of the huge, lovely berries) and frustration (at the millepedes for feasting on said berry) and revulsion (at the thought that there may have been millepedes in the berries you casually popped in your mouth without close inspection).
But, what can you do.  Just pick the rest and get on with things having learned that millipedes have pretty good taste in food.

  1. That is sooo ewwww, disgusting. The thought of popping that into my mouth turns me off eating a strawberry without cutting it open...lol. Well, it was a pretty strawberry.

Did you see the post with the new bag of cotton balls that I bought that had the exact same thing/millipede/whatever in it? I had the thought of "what if I had decided to put that cotton ball in my ear and the millipede hatched in my ear?"

Were the rest bug-free and delicious?

    1. Ewww....I think there is something especially horrifying about bugs going in your ear. If you look at each strawberry you can easily tell the ones that have worm holes, but I was sort of popping the smaller ones in a few at a time without much inspection.

And yes, the rest were bug-free and very delicious.

  2. As the old saying goes, "What's worse than finding a worm in your apple? Finding half a worm in your apple!)

  3. I agree with Bean! Better to find whole worms instead of bits!
