The Soloist in the Choir - NaPoWriMo

The Soloist in the Choir
The universe can be dead serious.
It is a daily contest of life and death for everyone
From the littlest beetle to the largest redwood tree.
It is also the most playful thing imaginable.
Why else would there be zebras? Or the platypus?
Or that lone baritone duck caterwauling off-key in contrast to the perfect choir of songbird sopranos?
Tweedle, tweedle, chirp, tweet, chirp, tweeee, pu-wee, pu-wee, chirrup.
     ---Quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.
               Quaaaaaaaack.
                      Quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.---
We laugh in our sleeping bag, waking to the racket.
Then the gulls laugh, too.
And we crack up all over again.
Note:  This is the final installment of my endeavor to write a Poem-A-Day in honor of April being National Poetry Month.  If you want to take part in the annual celebration of all thing poetry consider signing up to receive a poem each day in your email courtesy of the Academy of American Poets.  There are also loads of Poem-a-Day challenges on the local and international level to inspire creativity and hone the art of poetry writing.
