Simple Day Book for May 10, 2011

A Simple Woman's Day Book for May 10, 2011

Outside my window....
rain, rain, and more rain.  What a wet, rainy spring!  Matt is lamenting that we still haven't been able to get anything planted at the community garden yet.  In arid Montana we can't really complain too loudly though.

I am thinking....
of all the things I want to do while my sister Lisa is visiting from Seattle and how her visit isn't long enough.  Of course, she could probably stay for a month and I would still feel that way.  I miss her.

I am thankful for...
Matt.  After comforting a young widow recently it was all that much clearer to me how much I love him and how lucky I am to share my life with him.  And how appreciative I should be because one never knows how long that sort of blessing will last.

From the learning rooms...
quiet.....   The students are more or less gone for the summer.  I already have so much done that has been on the back burner all semester.

From the kitchen...
I finished off leftover roasted vegetables (squash, sweet potato, potato, broccoli, garlic).

I am wearing...
longsleeved t-shirt, fleece vest, jeans, hiking boots

I am creating...
a list of holidays to start celebrating.  We were talking recently about May Day and what a sweet idea it is to leave a basket of flowers or treats for your neighbors.  We decided maybe we should look into ways that we could celebrate more holidays and have more household traditions of our own such as a harvest celebration and solstice celebration, etc.

I am going...
crazy with anticipation of Lisa's and Eli's arrival on Thursday.

I am reading...
My Hutterite Life by Lisa Marie Stahl.  It is a collection of articles she wrote for a Montana newspaper.

On my mind...
borrowing a car to pick Lisa, Eli and luggage up at the airport.  Menu planning.  Family.

Around the house...
Recovering from our weekend trip to MN, prepping for visitors, tending seedlings, soggy birds at the feeder.

One of my favorite things...
birds.  Identifying new birds in specific.  It is so thrilling.....perhaps that's just me.

A few plans for the rest of the week...
grocery shopping, finish getting the house ready to have extra people (one of them a little guy) in my tiny house, didgeridoo meditation Wednesday evening, spend time with my sister doing whatever suites our fancy.  And NOT going to work!

A small window into my life...
My hibiscus finally bloomed again after probably a year without.  I was beginning to think it was "broken" so you can imagine me jumping for joy when I walked into the room as spotted this huge, magenta beauty.
This format comes from The Simple Woman blog.

  2. I inherited this one and I had no idea a flower could make me so happy. They are amazing in size and color! Initially I was shocked we could even get hibiscus to bloom in Montana, admittedly indoors.
