Me-Made-May 2015 in Review

I intended to take photos of my outfits during Me-Made-May.  I didn't, not really, only a couple of times.  I often didn't think of it until the end of the day when the lighting would be poor for photos.  What can I say, I am just not that into fashion photos, I guess.  I just kept forgetting.  It didn't really matter either, is the thing.  That wasn't the point of the challenge and so once it fell by the wayside it was easy to leave it lie there.

The point was achieved though.  I made it through the month wearing a me-made garment every single day.  It was quite easy actually, though I certainly have a handful of go-to garments that were in the rotation quite regularly.
Over the month there were three occasions where I changed into non-me-made outfits:
1) I had to cycle across town in the rain to go to a concert.  I didn't want to get road grime/mud splattered up the back of one of my pretty homemade dresses from my bicycle tire.  So, I changed into an old dark grey knit skirt and t-shirt which are my skirt-wearer's equivalent of sweatpants for the trip.
2)  I rode home from work and got totally drenched (have I mentioned its been raining every afternoon for more than a week!) and so after a shower I decided that since I'd already worn a me-made to work that day I could finally try that dress my dad bought me for my birthday.  I'd wanted to wear it since the moment I got it, but since my birthday happens to fall right smack in the middle of Me-Made-May (and it was a decidedly store bought dress) I had to be patient.  It was just as awesome as I thought it would be though.
3) I went to a wedding on the 29th.  I wore my me-made to work and changed for the wedding since none of my me-mades are particularly fancy enough for a wedding.  I did have to mend the dress I wore to the wedding though so it still required my sewing skills to come up with my outfit for that occasion.
This dress, made of a durable canvas material, is a fantastic addition to the wardrobe.  Just what I needed for all my camping adventures.  I finished it in April--just in time for Me-Made-May AND camping season!
There are a couple areas of my homemade wardrobe that I could work on.
1) I need a couple super-comfy dresses.  I like a fitted dress, in general.  I find them flattering and almost always comfy and practical for my active lifestyle.  However, there were a couple of points over the month where I, again, wanted the skirt/dress wearer's equivalent of sweatpants.  I should make a couple of those--something along the line of a loose sundress made of knit.  I do have a knit dress very, very close to completion, but I've stalled on it for whatever reason.  I did put a few seams together on it last night though.  This need for increase comfy knits was actually part of my assessment from Me-Made-May 2014, too.  The problem is that I don't buy fabric--except used--and knit doesn't come along this ways all too often.  I might actually have to go spend that Jo Ann Fabric gift card....
2) I should try to make a "fancy-wear" dress or two.  Originally, I'd made the black dress as a semi-dressy one--when paired with the right shoes, jewelry, etc.  Its made of a slinky, glossy sort of material that seemed like it would be perfect for such a use.  As it turns out though that dress is cursed and it quickly became a camping-and-gardening dress instead of a regular-every-day-work dress, let alone a fancy one.
3) I've never made any tops.  I'd like to try that out this year maybe.
And now, somehow, it is June.

    1. Thanks! That dress was one of the ones that went back into rotation as soon as it was washed! Its one of my favorites. I made it out of a vintage bed sheet that I bought at Salvation Army for my very first double bed.
