German Fever
After years of dreaming and months of (primarily Matt) planning, we bought the plane tickets for our European adventure later this year--Belgium, Austria, and Germany.
The next day I hit my 200th-day streak of German language study with Duolingo. (Though I've been on-again-off-again studying German since since 2020.)
So we celebrated both events last night! I found an upbeat Bavarian folk music playlist on Spotify. Matt put together a swell little German-inspired spread for dinner. Two styles of German beer, two types of (vegan) sausage, freshly baked pretzels with two mustards for dipping, fried potato-and-onion fritters, and applesauce. Yum. Lecker.
Later we watched a couple episodes of The Simpsons that feature Germans and/or Germany. The highlight was "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk."
(Revision from 1/17/25: The real highlight was "Homer's Enemy" with German voice dubbing*. I was giddy when I could understand the dialog!)
- The Mook, The Chef, The Wife, and her Homer
- Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife
- My Big Fat Geek Wedding
- Treehouse of Horror XII
- Beyond Blunderdome
- Trash of the Titans
- Homer's Enemy
- 22 Short Films of Springfield
Wunderbar! Where are you planning to go?
ReplyDeleteDanke! Ich bin sehr aufgeregt!
DeleteThe adventure will include few return visits for me (from 20 years ago!) tp places like Brussels, Füssen, Munich, and Salzburg. Plus several new to us both--Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Cologne, and Bacharach. And daytrips here and there from these places.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions, cautions, or words of wisdom!
Wonderful places! Rothenburg is lovely (although there are too many tourists). Go and see the cathedral in Cologne and check out the Roman history of the city (also, the art museums are wonderful).
DeleteBrilliant news about your persistence in learning German and your upcoming trip in the summer xx
