Our Wedding Day

After more than eight happy years of adventure together Matt and I got hitched this past Saturday, the summer solstice.  It was a glorious day.  Absolutely glorious.  Looking back on it now the whole thing seems kind of like a sort of wonderful dream.

We had sunshine overhead and green grass underfoot as we took our vows in grove a trees with our friends and family watching on.  We were so touched by how many people were there to celebrate with us.  Looking in their faces as I walked down the isle on my dad's arm filled me with overwhelming happiness and love.  It was a feeling like none other.  Our countless blessings in life were abundantly clear.  The whole day was certainly a memory and milestone that will stay with us forever.

And now we're off on a new chapter in the adventure novel of our life--as husband and wife.  I look forward to every minute.

  1. Eeek! I have been waiting for this post. I’m so happy to see you had a beautiful and memorable wedding. May I ask a few questions? :)

-Is ‘Boe’ a professional photographer or a friend?
-Where did you have your ceremony & reception?
-Did you DYI most things, i.e. flowers, food, etc?
-And this may be personal, but did you spend “a lot”? I’m always fascinated by the outrageous cost of weddings & admire couples who stay within a modest budget.

    1. Boe is a family friend who just happens to take nice photos. I just got the professional photos this week and will put a few of them up as well...when I find a spare moment.
The ceremony was in the Outdoor Chapel and the reception in the Great Hall at the college where I work. It was a beautiful location on both counts.
Yes, we did most things ourselves. Matt's and his mom did a lot of food work--cake, lefse, nut cheese, etc. We had a team of aunts making fruit kebabs. We did buy the chips and bread. My sister-in-law did the flowers. My godsister helped with planning and inviations--which were made by me, Matt, and both our moms. We made tie-dye banandas and canning jars for the center pieces. My friend did my hair. So, yeah, I'd say mostly DIY. That is the way we are about most things.
No, I don't think we spent "a lot" in respect to a wedding. Matt and I are very, very conservative spenders though so it still seemed like a lot to me. I don't know exactly how much though because we decided not to keep track. We were in the beginning, but decided it would cost what it would cost. Its not like we'd run up a huge bill (that is just not us) and so we'd just do what felt right. We didn't have our wedding party buy fancy clothes they'd never wear again (they wore white shirts and tan slacks). There were also no hair and nail appointments for any of the bridal party, as far as I know. Matt's suit was from a 2nd hand consignment store as were his shoes, my dress was my mom's from when she got married and I didn't wear shoes, I was given a steal on the venue since I work there, the photographer is still building her business so she was quite affordable. The only really big ticket items were the food, DJ, and photographer. And they were all totally worth every penny. But, yeah, it could get expensive quick. I've been watching your calculations on your friend's wedding and am thinking we did pretty good at keeping costs down...they add up so quickly.
