Front-and-Center - NaPoWriMo

Front-and-Center
I may have poor (friendship) form
When I hit the dance floor
And leave you in the dust
Lingering at the periphery
of the clustered mass of bodies
So I can do my thing.
Slink and weave my way in.

I'm a front-and-center kind of person.

You can always slide through with me.
I'll cut the path while you trail in my wake.
You can stand by my side.
I don't care if you even dance.
(but don't talk to me--I'm busy doing my thing
And that doesn't involve conversation.)
We could share the experience together.

But the center isn't for everyone, I realize.

I ponder my potential rude-ness
Less and less these days
As my limbs twirl and my soul rejoices.
I'm learning to embrace my essence,
Letting it go with the beats and thrums.
We both know where I belong.
I don't think you hold it against me.
You understand I've got important work to do up here.
Note:  This is an installment of my endeavor to write a Poem-A-Day in honor of April being National Poetry Month.  If you want to take part in the annual celebration of all thing poetry consider signing up to receive a poem each day in your email courtesy of the Academy of American Poets.  Or take participate in Poem-in-Your-Pocket Day on April 27th.  There are also loads of Poem-a-Day challenges on the local and international level to inspire creativity and hone the art of poetry writing.

  1. ...loved this one too...it reminded me of a girl I knew in college...who danced by herself...

    1. Ha! I have been known to do that. And I've found that more often than not if I start, others will join in!

Thanks and I hope you have a great day yourself!
