Storytime with Beth: That Time "I Drank Fat"

The Ferris Wheel at our county fair.  8/13/2025
Matt and I don't deep fry foods at home much.  BUT!  The fair was in town last week.  We knew we could enjoy cotton candy, popcorn, frozen bananas, fresh-cut fries, and more on the midway.  We also knew there wouldn't be much in the way of veggiedogs there.

So, Matt made some vegan hot dogs.  I made some cornbread batter.  He fried us up some corndog bites for dinner.  And then we went to the fair!

This reminded me of a funny story that occurred about a month ago.
Fresh cut, salty, piping hot, and delicious!!   Fries are our go-to favorite fair treat.  8/13/2025
I had made a batch of iced tea.  I filled a few jars and popped 'em in the fridge.  I drank one.  The next day, I grabbed what I thought was my jar of iced tea.  I had to hunt around for it, though, since it had worked its way alllllllll the way to the very back of the fridge somehow.  I take the jar to work.  Later, I go to take a nice, refreshing swig of tea.  But ohhhhhhhhhh.  Nooooooooooooooooooo.  It wasn't tea at all!
My blue raspberry-grape slushy sure hit the spot on a 90-degree day.  Added bonus:  It matched Matt's tie-dye! 8/13/2025
Viscous, used fryer oil (that Matt saved at the back of the fridge to use again later) filled my mouth--coated my tongue and teeth.  Talk about some sensory overload.  I immediately spit it back out.  It was so gross.  I had to slam some blueberry water to get it out of there.

Tea on the left and fryer oil on the right.  They look really, really similar!  No?  July 11, 2025
It turns out, I'd already brought my jar of iced tea to work.  It was in the work fridge!  I mean, I did think "How did my tea get pushed all the way to the back of the fridge?" when I grabbed it...  So.  Lesson learned.  Don't trust jars from the back of the fridge.
