A Tote Bag for a Treehugger

I made myself a little shoulder bag recently.  I have a thing for making bags, I guess.  After mending and dress-making they're my most frequent sewing project.

I used this free pattern/tutorial that I found online while browsing for ideas/patterns.  I specifically wanted a divided bag.  I thought it might keep my books separate from the smaller bits and bobs I carry around and decrease the amount of time I spent rooting around in the bottom of my bag.

It was an easy to follow tutorial and a simple bag to make overall.  The comment section had me a little worried about step three so as a result I felt like an evil sewing genius when I proceeded without a hiccup.

It works just keen for my purposes.  I keep my wallet and keys in the little outer pocket, my book and dayplanner in one of the interior pockets, and my iPod, water bottle and odds and ends in the other pocket.  They're all nice and tidy and separate.

If I was going to do it over I would use thicker interfacing so that is has a little more free-standing shape.  It is a pretty floppy bag as it is, not that it really matters.

Or maybe it is just the fact that I used every last scrap of interfacing I had instead of going to the store for more.  It is like a patchwork quilt of fusible interfacing on the wrong-side of the that bag.  Of course, no one can see that.

Friends, family, and long-time readers might recognize the tree-huggery fabric.  (Conserve!  Plant a tree!  Ecology!  Think Green!  Sustainability!  Natural Resources!)   I sure have gotten a lot of mileage out of that fabric.  (Good choice, mom!)  It has been a wallet, a dress, and now a bag.

    1. Constantly!!! So far this has been helpful, but it all hinges on me putting everything back in the proper pocket. ;)
