Free Yarn Rack

I saw the photo below on pintrest, back when I was experimenting with pintrest and before I decided it wasn't for me.  I thought, "OOOooh, I like that.  I'd like to do something like that someday."
Not my photo!  This photo is from the blog Easy Makes Me Happy, the whole post is here.
While my handyman hasn't yet had time to build me one as the universe would have it I found something strikingly similar just sitting on the street corner by a garbage can and a few bags of trash.   Granted a much smaller and freestanding version, but none the less.  (I am still a beginning knitter though so it organized my limited yarn supply quite well.)

I think it had been being used as a bird cage stand prior to its reincarnation as a yarn rack.  There was bird seed in the deep Vs and a couple smears of white that I presumed to be bird droppings.  A little clean up and it was good to go though.
I love it when things you want just fall into your lap like that.    Or like my new umbrella style clothesline which I also found piled with the trash.  As my mother always said "One man's trash is another man's treasure."  I am sure glad I spotted these quite useful treasures before they were dumped into the landfill.

    1. Oh good. I am so glad (and you are too kind). For some reason I was kind of nervous about that piece! Like I said I usually do rather abstract things. I rarely draw thing that are supposed to look like real things! But, after all, what else could I draw to thank you for your wonderful garlic, but garlic itself?!

    1. I am so going to call it a whirligig from now on. That is much more concise (and fun) than "umbrella style clothesline." Thanks. I love learning the difference in terms from around the world. I find it so interesting.

  3. This is remarkably similar and a truly good find! If you had a bottom unit of some sort, you could put it vertical, I think. It would be space-saving, if nothing else to put it vertical. If I used yarn, I would be pleased-as-punch with this! An umbrella clothes line? What are people thinking? I think a sociological study of these behaviors is in order!

    1. People are baffling and fascinating creatures, aren't we. I've always found sociology (and people watching) rather interesting.

    1. Oh good, I am glad its not just me that picks things up from the curb regularly! People toss out the darndest things and I see no reason to let them go to waste. : )
