Food, Cheer, and Song - Inspiration Thursday

"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold it would be a merrier world."
-Thorin II Oakenshield, a fictional character in J.R.R. Tolkein's 1937 novel The Hobbit.
I am not really that big of a Tolkein fan, I must admit.  His work is great, don't get me wrong, but I am just not much of an elf, wizard, dragon, fantasy-type reader.  That said, I think this dwarf is really on to something...

  1. Spot on. Even with three teenage daughters who have a plethora of outside interests and a social life that far exceeds mine and a husband who was often away lecturing. W (whoever was at home) always sat down together for the evening meal (at a table!) It's not impossible. Those who say it cannot be done haven't tried hard enough :)

  2. Growing up we almost always ate as a family. I cannot wrap my mind around any other arrangement, really. Time around the table is very valuable to me. And to you, clearly.
