Oatmeal Cookies

Since we've made oatmeal cookies twice in the past week it seemed perhaps I should share the recipe.  I think oatmeal cookies are my favorite kind.  I've never met a cookie I didn't like though.
Oatmeal Cookies
3/4 C shortening
1 C brown sugar
1/4 C water
1 t vanilla
1 C flour
1 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t cloves
3 C quick cook oats

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Mix together shortening, sugars, water, and vanilla.  Add remaining ingredients and mix well.  Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto a lightly oiled baking sheet.  Bake for 12-15 minutes.  Remove from cookie sheet immediately.  Allow to firm up and cool on wire cooling rack.

  2. We love Oatmeal Raisin cookies, at least for a cookie they seem to be somewhat nutritious :) I think the cinnamon and cloves are what makes an Oatmeal cookie taste fabulous.

  3. Certainly more nutritious than say, a sugar cookie! I actually do this sort of rationalization quite frequently. Like "Well, I used applesauce instead of shortening so these are practically like eating fruit!" (Okay, I'm not usually quite that bad.)
